Fr. Charlie Burton was born (1952) and raised in Corry, a small town in northwest Pennsylvania. He studied for the priesthood originally for the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania, but in 1977 moved to Chattanooga to take a position as a religion teacher at St. Jude School. He also taught adult religious education, worked with the youth group and various other parish ministries. He then transferred as a seminarian to the Diocese of Nashville (as we were at that time). He was ordained a priest on July 11, 1980, here at St. Jude Parish. He has been assigned to various parishes and ministries throughout our diocese: St. Dominic Church in Kingsport, Holy Ghost Church in Knoxville, Holy Family Church in Seymour, Knoxville Catholic High School, Notre Dame Church in Greeneville, St. Henry Church in Rogersville, Good Shepherd Church in Newport, St. James Church in Sneedville, the Catholic Campus Ministry at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, and was Director of Diaconal Formation for the Diocese of Knoxville. His most recent assignment was to return to St. Dominic Church in Kingsport for the past 14 years.
Fr. Charlie is very pleased to return to St. Jude and brings with him his delightful pound puppy “Honey.” If you would like to speak with him or make an appointment, please call the parish office at 870-2386.
